Tips for Updating Biographical Information on Your CGI Federal Profile
April 16, 2024
Providing incomplete or inaccurate details on your CGI Federal Profile can significantly affect your F-1 Visa application process. If the biographical information on your CGI Federal profile does not align with the details printed on your passport ID pages, it may cause delays in processing your F-1 Visa application or even lead to automatic rejection.
For instance, Indian passport holders may find their middle names included in the ‘Given Name’ section of their passports. Ensure to input your complete legal name under the ‘Update Profile’ section on your CGI Federal account.

Updating Biographical Information After Paying Visa Fee
Whether it’s a missing middle name, or a typo in the passport number you entered on your CGI Federal profile, if you have already paid your F-1 Visa fees, your biographical information will be locked into the CGI Federal system, and you cannot manually update the same.
You must submit an inquiry through your CGI Federal profile, letting the US Embassy/Consulate know that you have wrongly entered your biographical information, requesting them to make the necessary change on their end if possible.
Click on the ‘Provide Feedback’ tab that appears in the top left section of your CGI Federal account’s dashboard.
Choose ‘Any other query’ as the reason from the drop-down menu, input your request to the US Embassy/Consulate in the designated ‘Comments’ textbox, attach the pertinent documents, and then hit ‘Submit’.

Typing incorrect biographical details on your CGI Federal profile compared to what’s on your passport ID pages is a common error. Click the link below to obtain a free template we provide to our F-1 Visa clients for requesting the US Embassy/Consulate to correct backend errors. We’ve also included a document checklist for such requests.
Upon submission of your request, you might receive an email from ‘no-reply@ustraveldocs.com‘ confirming its receipt. If you don’t receive a response from the US Embassy/Consulate within 1-2 business days, email ‘support@ustraveldocs.com‘ with your case number to inquire about the status.
Expect a processing time of 1-2 business days for the US Embassy/Consulate to address your request. Once processed, you’ll receive an email from ‘support@ustraveldocs.com‘ acknowledging the error and providing further instructions.
It’s unlikely that you’ll need to make any changes on your end. We advise printing and bringing a copy of the email from ‘support@ustraveldocs.com‘ to your visa appointment at the US Embassy/Consulate.
