Steps to Resolve Typographical Errors on Your EAD Card
If Not Caused by USCIS Error:
you must take the following steps:
- Submit a new Form I-765.
- Include the filing fee, if required, or request a fee waiver.
- Provide any documents specified in the form instructions.
- Return the incorrect EAD card.
If Caused by USCIS Error:
you must take the following steps:
Option 1:
- If no evidence submission is required, such as in the case of a typographical error, initiate a service request through the USCIS website. Select the “EAD Replacement due to USCIS Error” option and detail the error. Send back the incorrect card to the provided address.
- USCIS typically takes around 30 days from receiving the card to process the request and issue a replacement.
Option 2:
- If evidence submission is required or if you prefer to use the mail-in process, submit a letter explaining the error along with supporting evidence and the erroneous card to the provided address.
Use online tools like SRMT for efficiency, and retain copies of all documents sent to USCIS. If you request a replacement EAD but no longer qualify for employment authorization, USCIS won’t return the card and will notify you. Certain individuals, like dependents of foreign government personnel, are exempt from replacement EAD fees. For inquiries about pending EAD applications, check our website for contact information.
